Critics Shed a Warm Glow on Lumia 900 Posted: 04 Apr 2012 11:52 AM PDT The Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone-powered handset is slated to be released next week, and so far gadget critics are giving the smartphone a generally warm welcome. The Lumia 900 has a 1.4 GHz processor, a 4.3-inch AMOLED ClearBlack touchscreen, a one-piece polycarbonate body, an 8MP main camera with dual LED flash and autofocus, and a 1MP camera in front that allows video calling. "The body is solid, elegant and not too big in my hand, though people with smaller hands may complain," IDC's Ramon Llamas said. "I really like the screen; it renders bright, clean colors indoors or outside." |
Video Game Guide a Sturdy Handbook for the Pragmatic Parent Posted: 04 Apr 2012 05:00 AM PDT Scott Steinberg is up to something important: He's trying to break down the walls raised by technology that have sprung up between children and their sometimes hapless parents. More importantly, he seems to trying to build a set of books and resources that will not only help parents understand the interaction and effects of technology on their children, but also protect yet let them embrace new tech. It's a tough job, no doubt about it. |
Is the Price of Chinese Labor Destined to Climb? Posted: 04 Apr 2012 08:36 AM PDT On Wednesday Reuters published an article forecasting that China is "losing its title as the world's lowest-cost producer of everything." Foxconn Technology's announcement that it would improve working conditions for its million-plus workers foreshadowed a permanent shift in how the nation treats workers, according to the report. Foxconn, which manufactures iPads and iPhones, agreed to improve conditions after last week's report from the Fair Labor Association, which levied a number of charges at Foxconn ranging from excessive overtime hours to health and safety hazards. |
Recoll Looks High, Looks Low, Finds Your File With Ease Posted: 04 Apr 2012 05:00 AM PDT Not all search tools are the same. Just like users have a variety of Linux distros that appeal to a wide range of needs, search apps do different tasks for different users. One of the best search tools I have found is a clever app called "Recoll." I have an extensive collection of research and published articles, plus countless files built from years of lecturing, writing and creating content. These are stored on both internal and external hard drives. |
