You may think you know the shortest, quickest route to work, but wait till Google get its hands on your steering wheel. Smart technology may save you gas you didn't even know you were wasting. Ford is working with Google to harness the power of cloud computing and analytics in order to design technologies that will allow vehicles to independently attain optimal drivability and fuel efficiency. Ford researchers presented a conceptual case at the Google I/O developer conference, showing how the Google Prediction API, combined with Ford's own predictive driver behavior data and analysis, could alter the performance of a plug-in hybrid.

WinPho7 Could Bear Fruit With Mango Update

Microsoft has announced that it would hold a VIP preview of the next major release of its Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system May 24 in New York City. This release is expected to be the one that's been discussed under the code name "Mango." The "Mango" update will contain several important updates, according to various leaks and rumors. It's not clear whether Microsoft's using the leaks as a marketing tool or whether loose lips do indeed abound in Redmond, as the software giant has repeatedly provided details of "Mango" on various occasions.

SeaMonkey: More Than Just a Firefox Clone

Mozilla.org's SeaMonkey Project was my first exposure to Web browsing when I started dabbling in the Linux OS. I have since played around with other browsers, including my workhorse favorite, Firefox, by the Mozilla folks. But I keep coming back to SeaMonkey for its simplicity and charm. SeaMonkey's latest version, 2.0.14, comes much closer to being a clone of the latest Firefox rendition. It has many of the features that have become synonymous with Web browsing. For example, SeaMonkey offers tabbed browsing, interface customization, user profiles and an amply stocked tools menu.
