The first Nokia smartphone to sport Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 mobile OS is nicknamed the "Sea Ray," according to video recorded at a Nokia press conference. The device looks very much like the N9, the MeeGo-based smartphone Nokia revealed earlier this week. Perhaps the strangest thing about the Sea Ray, though, was the way in which it was introduced. Nokia's WinPho7 device, nicknamed the "Sea Ray," appears to be very similar to the N9, hardware-wise, and Elop took pains to accentuate those similarities.

Facebook Shouldn't Wall Off Minors

Neelie Kroes, EC vice president for the digital agenda, has expressed concern that most social networking sites don't make younger users' profiles private by default. "I am disappointed that most social networking sites are failing to ensure that minors' profiles are accessible only to their approved contacts by default. This is not only to protect minors from unwanted contacts but also to protect their online reputation." she said.

It was just the other day the suggestion was made that Linux is best-suited for bachelors. That assertion set off quite a little storm of controversy, as alert readers may recall. The latest match to be tossed onto this tinderbox of a topic? A post over on LXer provocatively titled, "Anyone can use the Linux operating system." Ninety percent of today's Linux distributions "can be easily used by just about anyone when properly configured and presented with a couple minutes of explanation to the new user," wrote Thoughts on Technology blogger Jeff Hoogland.

Time to Start Writing That iPhone 5 Wish List

Posted: 23 Jun 2011 05:00 AM PDT

I had pretty much written off the idea that Apple would release a new form-factor for its upcoming iPhone 5, believing that Apple would let the phone's present form ride for another year, much like the company did when it introduced the iPhone 3GS. Because Apple released an iPhone 4 for Verizon late in the yearly refresh cycle, well, that was just another nail in the new-design coffin. But the latest rumors have me entertaining a tantalizing thought.
